David Bertone, PT, DPT, OCS

Dr. David Bertone is a 1988 graduate of New York University's physical therapy program and received his Board Certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2005. In 2010, he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professions. Throughout his extensive 35+-year career, Dr. Bertone has worked in many different practice environments but always focused on orthopedic rehabilitation. In 2008, he opened db Orthopedic Physical Therapy, PC to fulfill his desire to provide patients a unique, solo practice offering continuous and optimal evidence-based care. This approach utilizes the most up-to-date research to design a highly effective patient rehabilitation therapy program. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists as well as the American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Therapists. He was trained in the clinical skill of Functional Dry Needling by the Kinetacore organization in 2015 and then became Certified in Dry needling by the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy with specialization in Ultrasound guidance in 2024.. Dr. Bertone is a renowned and sought after expert in the practice of orthopedic physical therapy, specializing in the most current rehabilitation strategies. He was the past president of the New Jersey Society of Independent Physical Therapists where he was an advocate for the independent practice of physical therapy in New Jersey. In 2012, Dr.Bertone was nominated to the State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners by Governor Chris Christie and currently he is Chairman of the BPTE. In 2013, he became an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey teaching Doctoral Physical Therapy students about Concussion Management and the role of physical therapy in the complex world of concussions. In addition, he lectures nationally on concussion management as well as on rehabilitation following hip arthroscopy surgery. Jerry Moczerniuk, PT, DPT, OCS

Dr. Moczerniuk is a 2009 graduate of Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy at UMDNJ. Since graduation his practice has primarily focused in outpatient orthopedics, treating both peripheral joint and spinal conditions. He became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in June 2022. Dr. Moczerniuk believes that attentive listening and wholistic, comprehensive, individualized, and research based approach to Physical Therapy results in best outcomes for his patients. Some of his post graduate coursework included areas of running injuries, rehabilitation of the foot and ankle, manual approaches to lumbar and cervical pain, and pain neuroscience. He enjoys working with student Physical Therapists, helping to guide them in their journey to becoming skilled clinicians. Jerry continues to play competitive soccer, he has done so for most of his life. He enjoys running, surf fishing, and projects around the house. Most importantly he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and 2 children. Marisa Priolo, PT, DPT, OCS

Dr. Marisa Priolo is a 2019 graduate from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Prior to her doctoral studies, Marisa earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science from The College of New Jersey.

Since graduating, Marisa has completed an extensive course in vestibular rehabilitation and received her Certificate of Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation in 2021 to further advance her knowledge of concussion, vestibular/balance disorders, and dizziness. She became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in June 2023. While much of her post-graduate and advanced coursework training has been focused in the areas of orthopedic and concussion rehabilitation, Dr. Priolo holds special interest in the rehabilitation of overhead throwing athletes. Outside of the clinic she is part of a local group of professionals who collaborate on local Arm Care programming for youth, teenage, and college athletes.

Outside of the clinic, Marisa is committed to an active and healthy lifestyle. Marisa grew up playing competitive soccer from a young age and has since developed a passion for weight lifting, Pilates, and any outdoor activity. She enjoys reading, learning, listening to music, and spending time with her family and friends. Jessica Filzen, PT, DPT, OCS

Dr. Jessica Filzen is a 2019 graduate from the Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Dr. Filzen also earned her Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from Monmouth University in 2016. Jessica spent her 10-week clinical affiliation at our Manalapan location and has been a part of our practice since 2019. She enjoys working with the elderly population and has designed an evidence-based fall prevention and balance screening program, which she implements into her daily practice. To further advance her knowledge in balance disorders and dizziness, Jessica completed an extensive course in vestibular rehabilitation and received her Certificate of Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation in 2021. This has expanded Dr. Filzen's interest of treating patients with vestibular disorders. Dr. Filzen also takes on the role of a Clinical Instructor for Rutgers Physical Therapy students, as she also has a passion for teaching. She became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in June 2022. Jessica takes a special interest in treating elders for gait/balance training as well as individuals with post-operative orthopedic procedures. She also enjoys working with gymnasts, dancers, and cheerleaders as she has participated in all three in the past. Outside of treating patients, she enjoys exercising, going on runs, traveling, hiking, and spending time with her family and friends. Matthew Duncan, PT, DPT

Matt is a 2022 graduate from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey's Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Duncan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Kinesiology from Rutgers University - New Brunswick. Prior to beginning his career at our practice, Matt was a personal trainer for 6 years at a hospital-affiliated fitness and wellness center where he primarily worked with post-rehabilitation clients. Matt prides himself on helping others return to their prior levels of function, hobbies, and careers pain-free. Outside of treating patients, Matt enjoys weightlifting, DJ-ing, and attending sporting events. Alyssa Baez, PT, DPT

Dr. Baez grew up in Manalapan and went to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from the University of Hartford and her Doctorate in Physical therapy from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 2023. Dr. Baez did her final year clinical affiliation at db OrthoPT in Manalapan and decided to join our practice upon graduation. While in graduate school, Dr. Baez had an affiliation in pediatrics where she practiced in both the clinical and school based system working with children with special needs. It was then that she found a passion working with the pediatric population and adolescents with a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and desire to return to sport. When she is not in the clinic, you may find Dr. Baez working at St. Peter's University Hospital in Inpatient Rehabilitation where she treats a variety of patients with complex illnesses and helps post operative joint replacements walk immediately after surgery. Outside of treating patients, she likes to spend time with her family and friends, go to concerts, visit wineries, and spend time outdoors. Dennis "Dennie" Waite, PT, DPT, CSCS

Dr. Waite is a 2019 graduate of the Doctoral Physical Therapy program at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey and the acclaimed School of Health Professions. During his training, Dennie did one of his clinical rotations here at db OrthoPT which established his love for outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. He completed his training with rotations in Outpatient Neurological PT, In-Patient Hospital based PT and Pediatrics. Following graduation, he began to practice at Crest Physical Therapy in West Long Branch. Crest was eventually purchased by JAG Physical Therapy where Dennie continued to hone his skills. Dennie has been certified in Dry Needling by Structure and Function organization in 2023 and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). In addition to delivering caring and attentive physical therapy, Dennie also teaches Exercise Physiology as an adjunct professor at Monmouth University. If he's not in the office or at the university, you can probably find him out riding his road bike. His love of movement and exercise is visible in every aspect of his life, and is a large part of why he is able to take such good care of his patients in their search to get back to the things they love doing. Dr. Christine Scarano Ward, PT, DPT, CKTI

Dr. Christine Scarano Ward earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science and Sport Studies from Rutgers University in 1994, a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2002, and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from UMDNJ in 2004. She routinely works as a Clinical Instructor for DPT students, and teaches continuing education courses about Kinesio Taping for medical professionals.

Dr. Scarano Ward has practiced in various physical therapy settings including acute-rehabilitation; hospital in-patient and out-patient therapy; and home-care environments. The majority of her practice, however, has been in out-patient orthopedics and sports medicine, where she integrates neuromuscular rehabilitation, manual therapies. and exercise prescription to optimize her patient care.

Dr. Scarano Ward is certified as a Level One Sports Performance Coach for the USA Weightlifting Association, and in 2017 became a Certified Kinesio Taping instructor. Ultimately, she finds that all these components are invaluable in optimizing performance not only for athletes, but for each client she works with in the clinic.

In addition to her professional practice, Dr. Scarano Ward has organized and worked in the Recovery Tent for the New Jersey Marathon from 2012-2015. She participated in the Transplant Games in Cleveland, Ohio in 2016, and continues to be active in yoga, marathon, triathlon, and competitive events as a participant, coach, and clinician. She has been working with the NAHL NJ Titans hockey team since 2019, Dr. Scarano Ward is also a member of the USGA US Open Performance and Recovery Team, where she has worked with amateur and professional golfers and caddies during championship events. Dr. Meghan Raphael, PT, DPT

Dr. Meghan Raphael, PT, DPT is a recent graduate of CUNY College of Staten Island where she achieved the faculty award for excellent research in her capstone project working to further spinal cord injury rehabilitation research. Dr. Raphael completed her clinical rotations at Richmond University Medical Center, Kessler Rehabilitation, Precious Movements Physical Therapy and the NYS Department of Education, where she developed a passion for working with motivated patients. Dr. Raphael takes a hands-on approach to orthopedic injuries, focusing on manual therapy and personalized exercise programs to help patients return to the activities they love. Dr. Raphael is also a certified yoga instructor and avid runner, and enjoys practicing and teaching yoga in her spare time. Mary Catherine joined the practice in 2017 in a role of Administrative Assistant to Dr. Moczerniuk in the Manalapan office. She is responsible for the front office functions including patient scheduling, insurance verification and collections as well as handling any issues involving the patient’s experience at our Manalapan office.
